Action Week for Sudan

On the week of 14th October was Action Week for Sudan. Various events took place in Vienna to increase awareness and promote collective action in the ongoing war in Sudan, as well as highlighting Austria’s complicity in the war.

Millions of people are murdered, exposed to violence, on the run and/or affected by famine and resource scarcity. The Austrian media report little to nothing about this – many activists, especially Sudanese ones, see anti-black racism and ignorance of post-colonial realities on the continent as the reason for this. Oil giants such as OMV are one of the profiteers of the Sudanese war and genocide.

On the 18th October, along with the group Migrantifa, Mendy staged an assembly in the Platz der Menschenrechte, where poems, stories, and speeches from various people, including those from Mendy.

On 20th October, we held an event with the idea of Rest as Resistance. Sudanese food, music, art and poetry, we created a space for radical rest, networking and community

As part of the action week, the “Education project for Sudanese refugee children and young people in Cairo” by the Mendy Association for Peace Culture and Diversity Management and money raised for the education project was also presented.

We have the collective task here of holding the media, oil companies and all those who are complicit in colonialism to account and exerting pressure! And draw public attention to Sudan!
