Reconstructing Sudan at the VIDC and Bruno Kreisky Forum

The Podium at the Bruno Kreiskz Forum.

On October 24th and 25th, Mendy for Peace Culture and Diversity Management along with the Vienna Institute of International Dialogue and Cooperation (VIDC) presented a panel, hosted by the Bruno Kreisky Forum.

The Event consisted of a Panel Discussion on Reconstructing Sudan, focusing on a range of topics including the Humanitarian Crisis, the International Response, and what civilians and diaspora can do.

Franz Schmidjell from VIDC and Member of the Board of the Bruno Kreisky Forum Georg Lennkh welcomed the event, that consisted of experts providing historical context, activists of different expertise, and former embassadors of institutions, and was facilitated by a memberformer Ambassador of the EU and Director of ECHO (European Civil Protection and Humanitarian Aid Operations), Irene Horejs.

On the Podium was

  • Osama Kheir Mohamed, Diaspora Activist
  • Amira Osman, Peace activist and Researcher with an Interest in Diaspora Communities, Gender, Peacebuilding and Humanitarian Intervention
  • Suliman Baldo, Managing Director of the Sudan Transparency and Policy Tracker
  • Daniel Weiss, Deputy Head of Division for the Horn of Africa and East Africa at the European External Action Service (EEAS)

On the day after was a round table discussion, also featuring people from various different backgrounds, highlighting experiences of the ongoing Humanitarian Crisis, and what they are doing to help. This included discussion of grassroots movements, organising and funding, as well as Sudan’s assets in the humanitarian crisis and the Diaspora’s Ideas of a New Sudan.

After that, Dr. Ishraga Mustafa Hamid, who coordinated this event from Mendy, presented another of her initiatives. She invites everyone to taste a few Sudanese dishes for Lunch.

Mendy would like to thank Franz Schmidjell and Georg Lennkh for the opportunity. Bruno Kreisky’s Forum series Africa. Dimensions of a Continent” highlights African Politics and their relationship with EU Politics, and this is the first time Sudan has been presented in this series.
