Anticolonial Movie Night. Fundraiser for Sudan. 21.08.2025, 17:30 Amerling House, Saal im Hof, Stiftgasse 8, 1070 Vienna

[21.08.2025] Anticolonial Movie Night

Mendy blossoms day after day… flourishing through solidarity among peoples, and through the hands of a new generation from different European nationalities, united—and uniting us—through this solidarity.
Young men and women resisting colonialism in its various forms.

Anticolonial Movie Night - Fundraiser for Sudan
Join us for an evening of film, food, and solidarity as we raise funds for Sudan.
The night will also feature Sudanese food, as well as a selection of books for sale, with proceeds going directly to support for Mendy's education project. Organised in cooperation with Mendy für Friedenskultur und Diversitätsmanagement, this event is part of a wider commitment to anticolonial solidarity, amplifying Sudanese voices and supporting communities on the ground.

This is the second event they are initiating and through which they continue to express genuine solidarity with us. The program reinforces Mendy’s approach to work: implementing its projects through the arts.

"We will be screening, "You Will Die at 20", an award-winning Sudanese film that tells a deeply poetic and haunting coming-of-age story, exploring fate, belief, and resistance in the rural Sudanese village." Next to text, shows the movie poster. It is a dark-skinned woman in black clothese surrounded by others in white clothes and red fez.

They wished to get to know us better through cinema… I sent them You Will Die at Twenty, which we will watch together, followed by a discussion about the film. Then, we will share a Sudanese meal, along with an explanation of the rituals and the tenderness of fingers meeting over the communal plate with conviction.

Program:
17:30 - coming together/soft arrival/food
18:30 - 19:45 - Movie
20:00 - 21:00 - Discussion and hanging out

This will take place on August 21, 2025, at the Amerling House, starting at 6:30 PM and continuing until 9:30 PM. The invitation is open to all.

They will collect donations from attendees.
The idea is not quantity, but quality. Any contribution will help Mendy’s projects flourish along the paths of awareness and the right to live with dignity.

Mendy, through the Yes&No initiative, will present the following to our partners to support what we have started: the Education Project and raising awareness about the value of aesthetic knowledge in theater and writing as expressions of the self.
